hmm, prolly an area we disagree on; I'm a shameless pumpkin addict n' make no apologies
for the most part, I don't have much use for silly-a$$ed beers – gimme a Scottish ale or a Vienna lager with an occasional Pilsner Urquell n' I'm a happy boy …if I do wanna get fancy, it's mostly along the lines of a doppelbock (Celebrator!) or triple-chocolate stout or perhaps a porter – dark n' heavy n' rich…
but, come autumn, I like to indulge in a pumpkin ale n', when I do, I want one that tastes like pumpkin, is spicy & sweet …if I'm gonna end up with an ale that has just a hint of pumkin flavor to it, I'd rather just have a plain ale without it being tainted at all by pumpkin or anything else – if your gonna do it, you might as well overdo it, or what's the point?
not, I hasten to add, the way most brew-pubs do it, taking their best but nonetheless inadequate shot n' then coating the rim of the glass with cinnamon sugar – the beer itself should taste like pumpkin pie, no faking it …the old Blue Moon was like that before Coors emasculated it
I keep looking for another like it with little success; instead, the most successful of the ones I find are much like your description of the Post Road …I suppose those are nice in their way & no doubt a clever exercise of the brewer's art but not what I'm looking for…
…if you run across one of those "fruitcakes", lemme know; I'll prolly like it…
