How do you hook up a dvd player that doesn't have an input/output connection for the antenna?

You'll need to be a little more specific.  Does the DVD player and the TV both have the red/white/yellow jacks?  What kind of TV and what kind of DVD player (are they HD ready?)?

the red/yellow/white A-V cords are a good standard to go with if you just care about actually seeing a picture and hearing the audio (though, there are better qualities).  Most devices have the jacks for them, and the wires are a dime a dozen (I have a million if you need me to ship you a set, since I barely use them anymore).

If you already have the cords (red/white/yellow) and both have the jacks for it, you just simply plug them in (color-coordinated obviously), and pay attention to what line you are plugging them into on your TV.  Then tune your tv into that a-v frequency (usually done with an "input" button or something similar that you, or I, could look up online with a make and model), turn on the dvd, and let it ride.

*NOTE* This post is arbitrarily long because I have no idea what level of technical savvy you are, but since you're asking, I imagined you needed as much info as possible. And because I like to babble and hear myself talk/type….deal with it Laugh

Yes, the dvd player I got also included those red and yellow wires.  The thing is I have a cable box so wouldn't I have to connect my dvd player into it instead?

To answer your question my dvd player is a dynex and I don't know if it's HD capable, I know my cable box is.  I would think my tv is too old for HD since it came out way back in 1996 although I get the NFL network in HD but again that may be because my cable can handle it.

No…your DVD player does not hook into cable.  Not unless you happen to have a dvd recorder, which I doubt as they were almost obsolete before they hit the shelves, and way not worth the hassle.

Your DVD player is not used in conjunction with your television programming, so it is hooked up to your tv completely separate from your cable box, and it only matters if your tv is HD ready (but really not that much, since I assume this is not a blue-ray player).

Like I said, there are better quality hookups you could possibly look into, but personally I dont think the difference is all it's raved about (except HD wich is pretty substantial).  So just hook it up with the red/white/yellow jacks from your dvd player into your tv (dvd is output, tv input) and make note of the channel it's connected to.  Then, other than some possible short formatting, you're good to go.

Sigh…this is getting complicated, plus I have a number of "adult video" tapes on vhs, so I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and just buy another vhs/dvd combo

Thanx for all your help, Doc

Heh…dude, it's really not complicated.  I could walk you through step by step hooking up any audio/video devices if you want.  Having a split player is alright, but if you already have both, there's no reason you need them.

A DVD player doesn't need to hook through your cable box, because it doesn't record TV.  A VCR on the other hand, if recording television is something you want to do, would need to.  If you don't have any inkling to record TV, then it's even easier.  If it's a lack of input plugs on the back of your boobtube, there are cheaper ways to fix that as well.

Lemme know…just tryin to save ya a few bucks.
