I think the penalty is HARSH for the crime… although i do not know the Head Coaches connection…BUT how is this rule worth more than someone taping the other team to get an edge… Saying I will pay you 10K to snap his head has been going on at all levels of the game… I have never seen a player get the cash… but I heard the reward put out there … by other players .. coaches… dads.. uncles…
To me … Cheating should be punished more than trying to bust a guys leg… head shots seem like way to go
- New Rams DC Gregg Williams has been suspended without pay indefinately (to be revisited sometime after the 2012 season)
– HC Sean Peyton suspended without pay ($8 million) for the season
– GM Mickey Loomis suspended for first 8 games of the regular season (relative wrist slap)
– Asst HC/LB Coach Joe Vitt suspended for first 6 games of reg. season
– The Saints lose both this year and next year's 2nd round pick
– The Saints have been fined $500,000
The GM suspension makes no sense as it starts week 1… Can't believe a GM is to active weeks 1 – 8, and don't believe he won't be getting a phone call from his replacement if they are pulling off some deadline trade.
I'm not sure what to think. I actually thought the draft picks would have been a 2nd and 1st. The coach 1 year suspension is rough, but this bounty system was designed to hurt players. NFL is all about player protection and safety so you knew it was going to be stern.
Is one year enough? Had they not won the super bowl I might say yes, but since they won it all, and basically ended 2 Qb's careers I can't disagree with it.
While coaches have said for years you need to knock the other QB down early and often, putting cash offers to injure a human just isn't right. The shot Warner took could have killed the old man.

I don't see how people think taping someone is the same as intentionally trying to hurt someone. In addition Payton had been told to stop but denied it was going on and tried to cover it up instead. The commish had to come down hard and let the rest of the league know that neither thing would be tolerated.
The Saints (Payton, Loomis, & Vitt) are getting their chance to appeal their various punishements to the Commish sometime today.
I'm guessing that the suspensions get upheld.
Yeah, video of Gregg williams telling guys, while on the sidelines during a game, to injure different niners players leaked earlier today. I thought it was doubtful they'd get their suspensions reduced but thought there was a slim chance that could happen. There's no way now.
Well Goodell heard their appeal and has decided to uphold the punishments. He did say that he would consider reducing the financial fines at some future date depending on how Payton/Loomis/Vitt handle themselves and the whole situation going forward. If they toe the line and cooperate with the league's message then they might get some of their forefitted salary back.
Goodell also left the door open a crack to possibly modify the draft pick penalty for the Saints in 2013.
